Review from Linda A (Sister of Resident) published on 17 April 2024

My sister has just stayed at Alternative House respite for the first time and has thoroughly enjoyed herself.
She is significantly disabled and has needed a lot of attention which she has obviously received.
The manager and staff we met are very friendly, very caring and obviously dedicated to providing
an excellent service.
My sister can’t wait to go again.
Thank you very much to the manager and your team.

Review from Kerry B (Niece of Resident) published on 28 March 2024

My uncle was recently placed here after months of struggling at home with no real help.
As it was the first time he had been in residential care we were very wary of making sure it was the right place for him.
We needn’t have worried, the transition was smooth thanks to the owner and staff there who really took the time out to get to know him and spent hours with him talking about the army, putting him and the family completely at ease.
They very quickly identified that he needed assessments for various things which had totally been overlooked by his GP and were very quick to set these up.
We had lots of communication from the home advising us on how he had been during the days and nights and asking us questions so they could make sure they understood his needs fully.
Both my family and uncle are thoroughly pleased with the care he has been given.

Although my brother has only been in a few weeks, he seems to have settled well.

He likes all the staff I have met, and I feel that he is being looked after properly, and with respect.

It has put my mind at ease.

Outstanding care home.
First impressions are very welcoming.
All tastefully furnished and no smells.
Nothing is too much trouble for the owner.
All the staff are so dedicated, kind and patient.
The call buzzer is always responded to very quickly.
Extremely high standard of care.
Everything is run very professionally.
It’s amazing that the price is on the lower side of care home fees and the standard is so high.
The lounge is sea facing and has French doors and a large balcony.
All the rooms have an ensuite.
I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a care home

My mother has improved immensely since moving into the care home. She has put on weight and is eating regular meals now she always looks clean and tidy. The staff have got to know her and look after her very well.

Following a fall by my mother (89) which resulted in a hip replacement she and my father (96) spent five weeks of respite care at the Care Home. The level of kindness and care they received has been first rate. They have been happy and for my wife and I, it has been a great weight off our minds to have a home and team we can trust.

My father was a resident for a number of years until he passed away in February 2017. The care home were very supportive in the last few weeks. Over Christmas 2017, my parents in law needed immediate additional support. They organised a twin room within 24 hours. They have helped my parents in law to get settled. The carers have been very helpful and although this is the first time they have lived away from home, they have been made very welcome.

My mother became a resident in November 2017 and the staff have helped her settle in very quickly. All the staff know mum and every time we visit they know where she is and what she’s been doing. The atmosphere is always friendly and visiting is a good experience. They have entertainment, nails and hair done and a visiting chiropodist and I believe all mums needs are met. Some of the rooms could be smartened up/decorated but on the whole, we would prefer the intimate friendly vibe that’s on offer to a pristine accommodation.

My father’s condition has deteriorated over the past 4 years. The extra he and all residents get a big thumbs up for the management and staff concerned, I always say that caring is a very special job. We are lucky  we have very caring carers. These sort of people are using heroes of old age and dementia. We were very lucky, but after seeing the rest we eventually picked the best. In our opinion, the best of the best.

My uncle stayed here for a four week respite period whilst I tended to affairs that had to be done for him. The staff and management team were extremely good to both me and my uncle, fabulous care provided, thanks to all here.

More than happy to have been given the name of this home. The have really looked after me. I doubt I can go home as I cannot look after myself anymore. They are good carers.

My uncle has been a resident for over 12months, and I only wish we could have got him in earlier. The previous care home was dreadful and here shows how a care home should be managed. The staff are very friendly and caring, the home is clean and comfortable. My uncle was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and thankfully after nearly 2 weeks, he was allowed back to the home where the staff are doing everything to make him more comfortable. A lovely atmosphere when we come to visit him and nothing is too much trouble. First class.

The Care Home feels more like at hotel than a care home. It is always clean and fresh. The staff are lovely and very kind to the residents. Nothing seems to much trouble. My mother-in-law praises the staff very highly. The food is also very good. The management has also been helpful and efficient and has handled a stressful situation really well, putting the family at ease.

I believe it to be a well-run establishment. The staff are particularly kind, caring and welcoming when we visit. The living areas are clean, warm and bright. The bedroom is a good size and well furnished. We have noted that the staff work very hard and provide everyone with social activities and conversation. Having an in-house hairdresser all adds to a general feeling of well-being.

We first the manager prior to my mother’s admission. She ended up being admitted as an emergency and every single member of staff has been fantastic. I cannot fault anything and I am so very grateful for the excellent care she is receiving. Fabulous location, lovely clean and friendly place to stay.

My Mother died from cancer, aged 90, in September. My Father needed quality, long-term, professional care. Here they offered exactly what he wanted. I was delighted with the assessment and care offered to my Father. The Care Home offers everything people need to create a fine quality of life. It is expertly managed and manned by one of the hardest working, proficient, determined team of staff I have ever seen. Everyone is a professional; everyone is proud to serve; everyone respects and cares for their guests. There is no second best here. This first class facility also offers excellent value for money. As for the food, it surpasses most four star restaurants. Facilities include en-suite lavatories and bathing amenities, flat screen remote control televisions, a quiet T.V. lounge with sea view, a lift service and a hairdressing parlour. There are regular bus and tram services available, on the sea front, opposite the home. It doesn’t get better than this.

All staff have been very friendly and helpful. They have made my stay comfortable and a pleasant experience. Pleasant sitting room.

Review: 25 Aug 2016: Carol E (Son-in-law of Resident)

My mother in law arrived in April 2016 having been asked to leave her previous home after 48 hours without having been found any alternative arrangements. I initially phoned the manager for advice, but she came to our house immediately, assessed my mother in law and agreed to take her. My mother in law was shown nothing but care and compassion throughout her stay, even though she often behaved in an agitated or aggressive manner. This Care Home was immediately and continuously proactive about obtaining the correct balance of medication to manage her behaviour but unfortunately had to wait 7 weeks before the “Rapid” Intervention Team (RIT) finally arrived during which time my mother in law’s behaviour had deteriorated further. We have nothing but praise for the way she was treated. The home is well appointed, well run and a very pleasant environment in which to stay. All staff were friendly, professional and caring and we remain grateful for everyone for their help and dedication.

Review: 11 Jul 2016: Susan S (Niece of Resident)

Researching and visiting many Care homes for our Uncle, we came across this home. The home has a very warm atmosphere the residents all happy listening to music and chatting, spotlessly clean and very organised. All the staff have been patient, caring, professional and very understanding with Uncle’s hearing, visual impairment and help with his daily living activities. We cannot stress what an improvement from the last care home our Uncle had been placed in. It was a traumatic time for our Uncle and family to deal with. Here care of the Manager and her dedicated team has given our Uncle a safe dignified caring place to live promoting his independence and provides Holistic care for each individual at their time of need. Our Uncle is now looking forward to moving into their new home at Blackburn to be closer to his loving family. Although he will miss all the staff here at South promenade, residents and his lovely sea view room. BIG THANK YOU TO THE MANAGER AND TEAM xx

I am enjoying my stay. I am soon to move to their Blackburn branch. I am nearly deaf but enjoy the music every week.
